Faulty electrical appliances account for a large proportion of workplace fires; it is also a legal requirement under the Electricity at Work Regulations (1989) & the Provision & Use of Work Equipment Regulations (1998) to ensure that your equipment is periodically checked.
Angel Fire Protection can test your equipment for electrical safety; our engineers are fully trained & competent portable appliance testers equipped with the latest digital testing equipment.
In our experience the quality of portable appliance test services are vast and usually reflective of the price paid. Quality appliance testing does not have to cost a fortune though, why not cut out the usual 'visit or attendance fee' by having your appliances checked by us at the same time as your fire protection/ detection equipment. Much controversy exists surrounding the prices charged for PAT Testing
Put simply you have a choice between quality safety checks & those which are subject to much questioning.
Can a company really charge just £0.75 for a quality inspection of an electrical appliance?
Does your Pat Testing company do all of this?
- Switch off & Disconnect the appliance, (if they don't do this then they don't PAT)
- Check plug externally / replace if required
- Remove plug top - check fuse for correctness & cable terminations - replace/ repair if required
- Check whole length of appliance flex cable for faults/ damage
- Check outer casing of appliance for damage or wear
- Conduct Electrical safety tests - Earth Bond/ Insulation Resistance / Polarity
- Document all findings, remedial action & test results
We Charge £1.50 per unit, (discount for work involving over 200 units) Minimum visit/ attendance fee £50
For clarity a standard computer terminal will typically consist of 4 units (2x IEC power leads - 1x monitor & 1x base unit)
Therefore a standard computer terminal will cost £6 to PAT.
Did you know that the regulations state that many electrical appliances (such as power tools) require testing more than once or even twice a year.
Since your fire alarm testing will usually be conducted on a quarterly or bi-annual basis this provides an ideal opportunity to combine testing activities.
